Creating a flight path?

Hi guys,
I have these magic flying carpets in my 1001 Arabian Nights themed sim. What I thought would be really cool is if when a visitor arrives to view a property, he could sit on the associated parked magic carpet, and the carpet (instead of being manually raised/lowed, steered left/right, forward/back) takes off automatically and follows a preprogrammed flight path, and lands perfectly on the patio of the property he wished to view (see, I told you it was cool).
So, my question is, does anyone have any ideas on how to go about recording a flight path for an automated vehicle?
Rock

I've just started working on a project that will allow an object to follow a path, along a smooth curve going through predefined waypoints. Don't know if I'll actually use it for anything

Sounds like the magic carpet is more or less a stylized 3D elevator, I'm pretty sure I have seen some elevator scripts that work something like that here in the scripting forum. Here are a few possible starting points. /54/7e/197758/1.html/54/a6/122000/1.html/54/86/198155/1.html

I'd use way points so you can script around structures (land buildings, etc)
include the way points in a notecard, which is read into a list, walk forwad through the list to go to destination, reverse to return.
you can code the way points as region coordinates for single region or as relative to the start point llGetPos() + relativeOffset * llGetRot() for multi region then use llMoveToTarget in 40-50m steps

ya know I have to agree with Tyken, a link to a product as a suggested solution is one thing.... spamming with ad copy is entirely another

There's a freebie railroad script floating around - and there's no law stating that virtual railroad tracks can't be phantom/invisible and 50 meters up in the air, or that virtual trains can't be magical carpets.

From: Wilma Charron Were you able to find any useful tips on the flight path? I am using Second life in a College marketing course, and my team has come up with flying couches to soar around second life in... Thanks Hi Wilma, Yes, I got some good tips on creating the flightpath, most recommend creating waypoints, by having a HUD throw out the co-ordinates of each waypoint the avi stops at, then putting them into a notecard for a script to read and feed to a vehicle script. The main problem I have now found is not so much the flightpath but the position of the camera when flying. That really takes some getting your head around. In the end, due to pressure of time, I went for a commercial solution which solved my problem perfectly. When I have more time I will look at this in more detail, as it looks a really interesting projects, and I can already see improvements to the commercial product. Rock
