http://terranova.blogs.com/terra_nova/2004/08/virtual_wikiped.html

It's a discussion of the similarities and differences between virtual worlds and wikis as collaborative environments. It also has a comment from Cory Linden about an upcoming llCreateNotecard library call.

Oh my god. They're actually going to DO the llCreateNotecard() thing!

We won't be able to EDIT notecards, but we'll be able to work around that!

Holy shit, and here I thought LL wasn't listening to us.

What is the expected use of llCreateNotecard()? Persistantly storing data in the inventory of a prim? If that's the case, then how do you get around not being able to edit the notecard... what good is creating a presumably blank notecard?

Thanks for any enlightenment on this,

because there are functions to read FROM the notecard already available =D We just can't make notecards right now. So in many respects the notecard could become a type of database for scripters =D

I suggest they implement...

llList2Notecard(string notecardName);

...and...

key llNotecard2List(string notecardName);
...then in the DataServer event, receive each list item, one by one. (just like reading lines from a notecard).

::drools at the possibilities::

You know, I was just looking for a function like that the other day... I wanted to create an answering machine with persistance of messages across server downtimes, and creating a notecard with the data from a message would be the ideal way to do that.

::wanders off deep in speculation::

I suggest:

llList2Roadster(driver me)
llList2Dollars(amount me)
llList2Hawaii(passenger me)

Failure to implement demonstrates gross lack of attention to user community input.

thx for pointing that out.

llCreateNotecard should be fun ^^

also on a side note, i'm one of the people who looks over the change log on a number of wiki's.

See, it does pay to use the Advanced Search feature... Otherwise I would have missed Jake's thread here and posted yet another "How can I create a notecard in a script" missive to this forum.

<bump> This was a September discussion. Where's my llCreateNotecard, now that I need it?!? ;)
