I put this the Second Life Answers forum, but I thought I'd throw it out here also some ideas.
I put a script into a newly rezzed cube - when you touch it sets physical status and starts a timer event that calculates and llOwnerSays a random number every 5 seconds (proof of concept testing for a more involved script)
Well... the first time I touched it... *poof* the cube disappeared!!! I've searched my entire sim and couple nearby - I have a scanner - and have not been able to locate it anywhere.. But it still lives - every 5 seconds it spams me a new random number on chat.
I don't think it's in danger of bringing the grid down, but does anyone have ideas to help me locate and disable this thing?
TIA, Jac

If it was turned physical there is a good chance it fell just through the ground. You can turn off ground rendering (Ctrl-Alt-Shift-5) to take a peek. Although I'm a little surprised that your scanner didn't find it (unless it is called "Object", that is).
Good luck.

If it became invisible...turn on tools: highlite my objects, open the edit window and click drag around the area you lost it in, This should highlite the prim unless it moved far away.

Thanks guys. I turned off various things in the debug rendering menu. No luck - didn't see it. It was called Object. My scanner found everything else on my parcel called "Object". I renamed them all - still didn't locate the offending prim. I guess I'm doomed to a new random number every 5 seconds on chat for the rest of my SL life? ugh... I'm never doing scripting again. If you run across a .5m plywood cube somewhere on the grid with my name attached to it - return it if you can. Or let me know! Thanks.

Just a thought... are you sure your scanner includes physical objects in its scan?
Also, if you own the sim... maybe you could try chopping it up into parcels and then returning objects, kinda go through the sim that way? I'm not sure what else you have on there, if there's permanent stuff, this might be way too much work.

For finding objects that fall thrue the ground, I usualy mouselook straight down and then use that Shift select in edit to spot them.
Otherwise, you could have been a victem of those mechevious push everything scripts that some grefiers like to use. In that case it could be anywhere on that contantant or island.
It is posible to make a moving robotic scanner that would scan the entire grid.
You would have to scan for all objects named "Object" and then check to see if they are owned by you and then have it move anuther 10m, and repeat...
In the future you could have the script check llOverMyLand(llGetOwner()) and llDie().
