I am wanting to make a non physical prim randomly move along the terrain surface. Is there a way for it to detect the terrain height so it will not go threw the ground, like a slopped hill. Also is there a way for it to detect a boundary limit that it can not pass.

any help would be appreciated.

You may want to take a look at the LSL Wiki - Land section.

The llGround command listed there should be useful for what you're trying to do.

Don't worry about it. Just set the Z part to zero and SL will keep it at ground level. llSetPos has a inbuilt limit which stops it from positioning a object underground.
