Not a real great idea. Using the "Greasemonkey" bbcode plugin for firefox can make ALL this forum's broken BBcode look right, without making your links vanish as "broken images" when LL gets around to fixing the BBCode.

there's a caveat on using IMG tags...

they don't tend to work for certain file type extensions, but generally if you add a ? to the end they will (which isn't necessary if it alreay has it, and if it doesn't most pages will ignore it)
oh and if you get tired of the forum reverting it to a URL tag when previewing and then posting, you can prevent that by using the simple editor format (User CP option)

but on the plus side, it shouldn't come up as a missing image unless there are MAJOR changes... as I've seen it used in forums that weren't link disabled....

although I think it may cause your browser (even now) to try and d/l the linked page
