i was wondering if it was possible to make a stand where an avatar can "sit" and preview my shapes or othere items im selling. i have a script for animation and sounds but those arent really items that have to be worn. is this possible?

In order for an AV to preview an item that is worn, it must be in their inventory, therefore it must be their's as the owner.

Skin makers get around this usually by putting the word DEMO all over the skin they give out to try on, putting it just enough so that someone would not want to wear it as is, but not so much that they cannot decide if they like the skin or not.

No chance to preview Shapes and texturebased clothes or hair.

Primclothes / PrimHair can be rezzed like any other item.

Ive previewed shapes on the beta grid so a shop in a location that gets copied to the beta may be a good idea (although the numbers in the beta are much smaller)
Not that Ive actually bought any on the real grid

One way of making a demo shape may be to make the demo no mod and include a huge deformaty in one spot, such as giant feet. Im not sure if people would be able to copy your numbers, you will have to check that.

I've never written something like this but just an idea: Couldn't you use llSetTimerEvent to delete the object using llDie or even permanently deform the prim using llSetPrimitiveParams after 5 minutes or so?

Some demo shapes and hair are nomod (unlike what you get when you buy) and have huge signs attached to the head. It works!

Another idea: Set the prim to preview a different shape every 30 seconds or so using llSetTimerEvent and llSetPrimitiveParams.

Good luck

[scratches his head] I've certainly seen prim wigs like that, but shapes? Shapes are worn non-prim items... you can't attach anything to them, and you can't put a script into them and you can't affect them with a script...

You could give them rediculously huge feet or something like that. Most ppl will be interest in the preview of the face, toso and breasts. They can preview that with the huge feet, but they wouldn't walk around in them probably...
