How do I detect the name of the avatar who's moving the object (not touching but moving)?

Thanks in advance.

If the move is being done with edit-tools, I believe the answer is "you don't".

with the edit panel closed, and the "touch" hand.. if you are pushing around a physical object (like a beachball) does that trigger a touch event?

Yes, using the hand to move a physical object fires touch events. It also populates the llDetectedGrab(i) data.

As such, you can use llDetectedName(i) to get the name of the avatar who is moving your physical objects.
