Help with Getting particles where I want them

I'm creating an object that is supposed to drop a static particle a meter or so in front of the Avatar. I want it to be dropped EXACTLY where the cursor is in Mouselook mode.

Right now, I have the object held in hand. That object has an invis prim about 4 feet in front of it that drops particles when told to. If that object is held in hand and used in mouselook mode with a pistol anim, it works okay... but not great. Targetting is only correct when looking straight ahead.

How can I go about either A) Moving the particle-creating invis prim to where it needs to be for exact mouselook targetting or B) Tell the particle system to drop a particle about 3' in front of the Avatar exactly where he's looking?

Please help if you can!

Your method of using an invisible prim drop the particles in place is clever, try attaching it to another place (skull ? pelvis ?)

Well, I haven't tried, but just throwing this out there, it could be way off, but this is how I would make the first attempt ...

1. attach prim to one of the avatar's eyes and adjust the x,y,x planes so that they match the eye
2. set the radius to 3
3. use the cone pattern and adjust the outerangle to limit the creation area to a very narrow arc

My reasoning is that it will be out at the correct distance, the eye focus will keep the particle at the spot the avatar is looking.

Anyhow, just a thought!
