Greetings to all you scripters that make sl a fun and better place to be . About myself , well I am a programmer cad/cam designer ( robotic motion controll) , a general all around good guy and a small time sl merchant however a scripter I am not . I know just enough to make small edits and parameter changes but it will be quite sometime before i will ever be able to do what you guy's do in your sleep . I am looking for a solution for an ever increasing problem I experience as I log into sl . Before I can even rez I am hit with a bunch of offline and online instant messages asking for info and or support on some some of my creations and it's hard to tell who's online and who's not since it can be a large stack of im's all at once . What would work really great for me is a way to record a message from chat and store it for retrieval at a more convinent time . Example ; an avi walks into a store and has a question about a product and see's a box with floating text that say's "just use your chat window to leave a message" . So without having to click a box or do anything else other then type in chat the message and leave (range to record chat should be ajustable to close range and not record anything outside the shop) . At a later time I could walk in the the shop and click the message box and retrieve the messages in a notecard or maybe even the chat window , could copy and paste to notecard if that makes scripting this easier , Then I could type /1 reset and clear the message box . Now I know I can receive a message in email but sorting throuh all the spam can be a real life pain . So folks , is this at all possible and if it is , I would be forever gratefull to all you that can help and or even post a script to solve my problem . Thank you so much

Well, if the box records ANY chat without the chatter having to touch anything or say they want to leave a message, that's classed as a surveillance device and is technically against ToS... and also, you'll end up with any random conversation that people have anywhere near it.

I did one for my shop a while back - nothing fancy.
Just touch it and you get told a channel number ( different every time )
Leave your message on the appropriate channel - if you are on line you get sent an IM
If you are off line or have "told" the box not to disturb you - you get sent an email that you can persue at a time more convinient to you ( both email and IM contained the name - time and place the person was asking )
Works to great effect for me - people can stand in my shop and ask a question knowing I will get the message and get back to them when I get a chance.

I suppose what you have could work for me too , my concerns would be for ease of use for someone new however anything would be better then what i now encounter when i first long in , I'll try to find you in world , maybe you can show me what you've been able to do , thanks
