Might we be able to obtain a pencil sketch rendering in SL using the technique described at HijackGL--Non-Invasive Extensibility for Graphics Applications ?

It might produce an SL that looks sort of like:

The plugins don't handle most of the more advanced rendering features that SL uses.
but here are some screen shots i managed to get.

Wow, this stuff is pretty crazy. It looks like it would be a cool thing to play around with, but I can't get it to work.

Nice find!

Thanks, Strife!

Strife, I think the scripting forum is the most approprate forum for this, since this is where the programmers hang, and you have shown me to be correct by getting the pencil sketch output you presented.

It would be totally neat to see the SL world in that format.

As to whether I was suggesting something wicked, I don't see the harm in this.

Was it just a matter of following the instructions or did it involve a bunch of additional brainpower dealing with problems?

From what I can tell, he may have just been lucky. There aren't verbose error messages that tell you when you mess up and how.

It may just be that he has the right configuration for it. Would someone who got it to work mind posting up their specs and SL settings?

was hoping that tp'ing would equate to starting up a new map in Q3. might have to load Quake to see if that even works...

Hey, that's pretty nifty. Nice find!

If there are other rendering packages out there that work in this manner, I might just get my wish vis a vis my complaining about how SL renders stuff. :D

Fun stuff!

I got it to work. Very oddly, if I click on a shortcut to secondlife while the files are in my Secondlife directory, it says SL is already running. However, right before I gave up, I found out that if I run the actual exe program instead of the shortcut, it works!

Screenshots attached. For anyone else playing around with this, I found 2 "tips" - If you hit Scroll lock and are about to take a screenshot with printscreen, if you hold alt, it will make some prims visible that aren't already. Also, the best way to "trick" it into rendering objects I found was this - select and edit an object so it's highlighted and shows the drag-arrows. then hit scroll-lock - for about 1/2 a second as it switches to whichever renderer, it will draw the outline-highlighting and "trace" the objects" Other than that, it looks pretty neat but still can't get it to draw much more than the AV, trees, and a few surrounding prims.

Hit Scroll Lock to enable, Huns. I made the same mistake. :D

Is the console appearing, at least?

i needed to grab the GLUT32.dll off the net and plunk it in the folder with the Atlantis demo to get it to work. just in case you didn't try that...
