Hi. I was just looking around at some shops when I happened to pass one which was advertising a HUD that could target and kill people off-world, up to 300 meters away. Well, that got me a bit interested...How is it possible to move an object off-world, and even to target a person while doing it? I went back and tried llMoveToTarget and warpPos, but both objects never even passed 10M below the surface, far from 300M. Thank you.

Well...actually I don't see the point of moving objects offworld. But I'm still curious :)

I think the maker meant 'out-of-region' not 'offworld'... BIG difference

Apparently this "HUD" you saw most likely uses certain exploits to orbit a player which effectively moves them "offworld" and forces them to relog.

Good thing that with Havok4 (physics engine) most (if not all) of those exploits will be taken care of.

hmm...the HUD advertised "killing" people who are sitting offworld (using sit target). I think sitting offworld is called phase or something of the kind? I don't see how it's possible to kill anyone sitting offworld unless an object is rezzed and moves offworld. But that's exactly what I'm curious about...how is it possible make an object move 300M offworld before it dies?

Edit: When I sit on the object, and use SetForce, I can manage to get down to about -600. But then again, I have no clue if sitting on an object affects how it moves.

[EDIT: Nevermind, I'm probably way off, and the guys in black shiny helicopters may come if i'm right.]

oh didn't know about the sit target thing for moving offworld... ok makes sense now

perhaps they detect the av, detect the object it's sitting on, rez a prim at the same location, then use child bullet prims at regular offsets to achieve a kill.... dunno how they're getting 300m range offworld though

The sit target thing is like the NPV that was posted here a couple of weeks ago. With that one and without any changes you can go down to -87 meters I think and move around. Disabling camera constraints means you can still see everything normally above ground.
