Script/Sim performance

I've been scripting one of those basic Sim monitors (since personally $L 500 for twenty lines of code I can write from a quick search in the wiki seems like extortion). I've gotten all the basics I've seen on most of them, however I have not figured out how they display script performance. I know using the Client view advanced monitor (shift command 1 on mac) it will show the ips, but I have not yet found any command to do this. Of course these monitors might just have some internal algorithms for doing this on they're own.

But does anyone here know of any commands I can use to get the Sim ips back?

Thanks

I don't think there is such a thing as "extortion" in that situation. Like you intimate, the scripting for it is not exactly a scarce resource (assuming it is something that simple), but if someone wants to pay L$500 (or L$10000) to have something like that right damn now, then *shrug* more power to them and the seller.

I don't know of any scripting call which gets script performance parameters, but you can get the region time dilation and frame rate.

Yeah, it's not extortion, some people have no clue when it comes to scripting or building, so they're happy to pay for something they want. It's what SL is all about, but $500L is a bit pricey, for what it is, I'd say no more than $50-$75L

Aye extortion probably wasn't the best word, but high way robbery wouldn't make much sense since SL has no highways (well except the few in ruins on apocalypse sims). So far most of the "Script Performance" readouts I've seen on monitors just turn dilation (which goes from 1.0 and below) on their readouts just gets turned into a percentage. I was just hoping someone had found or seen a command that would return the sims ips. I'll have to check the Lib commands at some point.

Being a programmer RL I just get annoyed with people who may well just be tweakers who know how to read the wiki better than the average SL user charging way more than something is worth. But I suppose similar happens with plenty of built objects, stupid/simple things selling high. Perhaps I wrote my original post a bit more harsh than I meant, sarcasm doesn't travel over the internet as we all know.

You do realise that $L500 is less then $2? Game or no game, your RL time is still worth money. Even if someone only spent 10 minutes coding a script, $L500 = $12 per hour, which is not unreasonable.

There isn't. Like I was saying, the only thing you can get for performance is what you have. Time dilation and FPS.

Well, believe it or not, that's what a lot of professions do; people pay someone else for their time and knowledge to do the research for them. Look at the legal profession. If you think about it, lawyers are completely unnecessary. Ultimately, you are just as capable of doing the same research and representing yourself. However, wouldn't you rather have someone do it for you, who has more experience and may know where to look?

"Way more than something is worth" is a slippery slope. As a programmer, any particular LSL script may not be worth a lot to you, as you can probably pretty easily reproduce it. However, to someone who is not a scripter, it may be worth a mint. If someone insists on paying me L$10000 for a titler (after being given it for free), then *shrug* that's fine. If someone wants to charge L$500 for one, that's their choice. If the market bears it, then more power to them.

In these cases, I am very much a "let the market sort itself" type of person. People don't need to be protected from themselves. It's not particularly hard to avoid impulse-buying and hang around a bit to find out what the average market prices of things are before spending. Savvy consumers save money. :)

In SL, ANYone can script/build/whatever, given enough time (and, in some cases, talent, but even talent is a developable trait). It all boils down to whether you want to wash the car (or mow the lawn, or clean the gutters, etc) yourself, or pay someone to do it for you. ;)
