use llDetectedRot() in a touch / collision / sensor event. :)

Also, llGetRot called from a script within an attachment should (to the best of my knowledge) return the rotation of the avatar wearing it.

can you also create a cube then sit on it, and then edit again, and look at the three numbers in the title bar? Or is that just global position?

Meh.. oh well

Huh? If you sit on a cube, your av acquired the cube's default rotation. You aren't measuring anything like that :)

Eggy thinks I hate him, because I always chime in to tell him he's wrong.

Eggy, stop being wrong :) Your av's rot depends on where they're facing, not on what they're sitting on.

Please add one cup of battery acid, one cup of vinegar, one cup of baking soda, some dry ice, and a corrosive (you pick) and dump kindly onto your Avatar. THEN WATCH AS YOUR AV ROTS. BWAHAHAHA!

I've been having a similar problem. llDetectedRot(0) where my AV's object number is 0 does not seem to work for me. I give rotation "rot" llDetectedRot(0) in a sensor event and then use llRotTarget(rot, pi/16) in order to get the object I'm scripting (which isn't attached to the AV) to face roughly the same direction. However, it doesn't work. The object is physical, but it just spins on its Z axis when it's bumped, which I set to be the only axis upon which it can spin in llSetStatus. However, it does not spin to the direction the avatar is facing. Any thoughts?
