I have a swimming poseball that only operates in Linden water. It is not modifiable. As I would like to use it in a pool above sea level, is there any way to nominate a prim as being ‘water’.

Thanks again - I don't know whether it is a good policy for Lindens to keep developing new viewer etc. etc. - why don't we just fix what we have first. - OK I'm getting off target.
Thanks again.

sadly it doesn't work that way.... it can't...
you have people that work on fixing bugs, this is often harder work than making new stuff, because it's usually someone else's code, and the code SHOULD have worked to begin with... so it might be hard to find the one plcae it's broken or off, and it might be harder still to fix it w/o A) breaking something else, or B) some really bloated or hackish fix, or C) a large rewrite...
meanwhile you've got other people working on new stuff, so that your product doesn't get stale and someone else doesn't come along and eat your business....
having worked as a debugger, it's really tedius work, and really annoying when managment comes along and says "ok, that'll have to do, ship it out"... but they have to... there are deadlines, and you just put out the best thing that you can in the time given, then cringe as the users call yelling at you about their product not working, and you know it was a bug you already found, but didn't get finished with... which is why you often see products that have a list of "known bugs" even on shipping day

I dont see the point here... there's no difference between linden water on the older viewer or the windlight viewer. There's SL water, and there's prim water. Stuff made to work on SL water will still work on SL water with windlight. The only difference is how the SL water looks, and your new capability to modify fog density, reflectivity, etc. 'Prim' water exists for a number of reasons. One, not everyone can dig down to the water table (SL water), another is stuff like hot tubs, and other above ground water containers.
Your object is scripted to work on SL water only, not prim water. It's not because SL is developing Windlight that your device doesnt work on prim water. It's because the creator created it to work on SL water only. Prim water is just that, a prim, textured, animated, semi-transparent, phantom, primitive shape. It just looks like water, it's not the same thing as SL water. If anything, your complaint lies in the creator of the device, who scripted it to work only on SL water, and not 'air' which would allow it to work on prim water, or any other phantom prim for that matter, or no prim at all.
Even at that, there are other devices scripted to work on 'fake' prim water. And some made to work on both.
I truely dont see what your complaint is here?

I think maybe OP mistook the meaning of my comment about windlight and water (windlight makes linden water look fab... and prim water look like a piece of cardboard by comparison..)
or maybe OP just considers the fact that you can't place water to be a bug that needs fixing (I'm inclined to aggree to a point)

Who complained about what? I only see general comments - I don't know if I have your product or not - I wasn't complaining about it. I'm confused - think I must have my wires crossed.

Ok, I get it, I misunderstood what Void was getting at... It sounded to me as if he was saying that Windlight was making it not work, but, instead was talking about how great SL water looks under windlight, and I fully agree. Water not only looks great, but is incredibly modifiable.. texture, fog density, the ability to create and save presets.... it's totally amazing. However, I dont quite get the 'if' in your post Void. I don't suppose LL bought an entire company (albeit small), and spent the better part of the past year incorporating it into SL to 'possibly' add it to the main viewer. I dont think it's a matter of 'if' rather than when. Personally, I think windlight is a great addition to SL. I've heard all sorts of complaints about what SL lacks visually, and I think this really addresses a good portion of the complaints. Granted, prim water vs Windlight water is no contest, but I dont think it will kill prim water. There are just some applications where prim water is the only solution at this time, (a birdbath or bathtub, hotub, etc), not to mention the fact that the majority of land owners cant dig down to the water table. However, the idea of a prim property of 'water' would be awesome, and considering the vast difference between prim water and Windlight SL water, maybe that's a feature we should all start stomping for next...
