It turns out that you cannot easily display dynamic text on a prim.

You can create a texture, upload it, and put that on the prim. If yo only have a few diff texts, you can change between one and another.

there is a tool called xyyzy or something like that that can put text on a prim. It does it by storing lots of little prims with letters on them and then putting those prims on the display board. Search these forums or google.

there might be other hacks.

thx for your reply. the example called xyyzy can only display 10 characters if I remmeber right(even if I extend it to 100 words, it will still inefficient). well personally i want to display some real time data. my server collects data from my mobile. I want to have a screen in second life and refresh every 10 sec(timer, data transfer can be done). so far as i know some ppl used PARCEL_MEDIA_COMMAND_TEXTURE to display text textures or generate some images at server then upload to second life. so are these only ways to display text? I want to find an efficient way to display text. I was thinking i could do some scripting at second life side instead of server side. any more tips are welcomed. thx

Sorry but LL patently refuses to create any useful functions for that.
