At the starting area, there is a gun range. The script and gun there are free to modify and take. That's about as basic a script as you can get; anything else might be too complex for someone that doesn't have scripting experience.

IM me in world, I have several gun scripts (although I never really use em, I have tons hehe) that you can modify. As far as what they do, you kinda' tweak em and figure it out. Most of em shoot stuff..lol

Come to think of it, a Gun might be a good project for someone new.
You will need to figure out how to make a prim (primitive object, see building at the Ivory Towers as an example)
You will need to figure out how to create prims that are temporary (as the projectiles). You will probably need to figure out a way to put a sound in, you will need to figure out how to script these things to cooperate all at the same time... there are a lot of things that need to be coordinated with making a gun.
You can't "BREAK" anything by trying different things with that script. =)
