I've seen teleporters that teleport people when they touch them, as opposed to right-clicking and having the person "sit" on them -- how does this work? Can anyone please tell me how I can make a teleporter by having someone just touch a prim?

You could do it with a series of pushes, but that's messy and what you're seeing is probably just the standard sit teleporters with the default click action set to sit. You can set it under the general tab on the edit floater.

An object can have it's sitposition up to 300m away from it's base position. Meaning, that if you "sit" on it, it teleports you to that new position. Of course that teleporter waits half a second, then unsits you. Making it appear like you just teleported, when in reality you sat 300m over a chair and then got kicked off. There's a variation on this theme that will travel a bit further (500m?) but I'm not entirely sure how that's done.

the "one touch" trick is just a setting. if you go under the "General" tab on the Edit tool.. you'll see "When Left-Clicked" at the bottom. Change "Touch/grab (Default)" to "Sit on object"

Now.. when you hold your mouse over the teleporter, you'll get the little chair icon. Click on the teleporter, and woosh, you're there.

This trick also works to take a step out of beam teleporters. click the beam, and you're automatically sat on the beam, and the destination menu (if any) shows up.

I think the limitation is 300m on each local axis. Imagine a cube 300m on a side. The diagonal distance between opposite corners is just under 520m. The "Longer-range" sit-hack TP's just orient themselves so that the diagonal points to the destination.

I've seen long-range teleporters using warpPos, then unsitting, then warpPos-ing back too.

That's how mine work too. Default left-click is set to 'sit' and so you one click it and it warppos's you to your coordinates, unsits you, and warppos's back again.

Thanks for the replies, but so far I don't think the question is answered.

I want a short-range teleporter for other people (ones without their default settings changed) to left-click on an object and be teleported. I realize this involves a sit/unsit trick, but my question is how is this accomplished via a left-click?

As noted above, the settings in question are for the object not the avatar, agent, or viewer.
