I have a single candle flame texture, that i want to get looking like a its flickering gently. I have seen a single flame texture put in a tiny cylinder for a wick with a script... & it was flickering really cool, & even looked sort of rounded where it came out of the prim wick..... any one have any ideas on a script for this? (not looking for a particle flame either, thanks)

I suppose you could put it on a flexiprim and make it wiggle a bit. Vary the alpha and color a bit.
You might be seeing a texture animation, made with several frames of fire in different positions, made into one file, similar to how an animated gif file is made, and animated using llSetTextureAnim.

Screen shot might be useful. The name of the particular candle you like wouldn't hurt.
A texture has to either be a particle or on a prim to be seen like that in SL. It might be in a prim's contents, but to be seen it has to be applied to a face or used as a particle.
There's a fire that either comes in our libraries or comes with some Linden provided freebie that uses two or three thin square prims with animated textures on them.

Also, if the texture is built right and applied to the outside of a cylinder or tapered cylinder (cone), rotating the prim might help it look like it is flickering. Try also animating a texture (scaling or rotating) applied to the inside of the hollowed prim to add to the effect.

That candle flame you sent is definitely done with a particle.
You can get a free candle flame particle script at Jopsy Pendragon's Particle Laboratory.
Jopsy has a candle flame texture to use with it for sale for 25 lindens.
Jopsy's script comes set to make a flame that's a bit more exuberant that the one you sent.
To calm it down a bit, you could comment out the line with "| PSYS_PART_WIND_MASK " so that it doesn't move around with the wind.
You comment it out by adding two forward slashes at the start of the line, like the lines in the script that are already commented out.
That candle flame texture doesn't look just like the one in the candle you sent. You can make your own in a drawing program, using one you find with Google images if you need that.
