I use an in-world one myself. Change a line in a notecard, everything happens automagically.

Kinda handy, because it's waaaayyy to easy to delete a prim (and lose its key) by accident.

Just set your mailserver to redirect... what do you use? Someone here will be able to help...

Hey, Arch.

What's your timeline? When do you have to have this?

What kind of volume are we talking about?

Will you need a special feature to "hold" dead emails until the target address is changed, in case the old address dies before the new address can be set?

Siobhan: I just tried setting up email forwarding on a new account(an Adelphia account) and for some reason it doesn't wanna work.

It forwards fine to a normal address, like a hotmail one, or another adelphia address. It doesn't seem to want to forward to the SL address.

I asked Adelphia support about this and they told me me that SL doesn't accept forwarded mails, which is wrong, right?

Grim: I could pretty much start making use of this as soon as I got it.

This is for an autoupdate script for an object with about 400 copies in world and growing. So the traffic would be kinda high, if I kept it "auto" anyway. Thats why I was asking about pay services, since I dont think I'm gonna find a free service or charitable person that would take on that kind of load :P

As for holding emails, that's not neccesary.

Actually, it kinda makes sense. When mail is forwarded via, the To: address doesn't change, only the RCPT TO: header does. It's extremely likely that once the SL to-world SMTP server starts parsing the mail, it only looks at the To: address to determine which object it should be sent to.

Well, now that the Olympics are done with, I'll be getting back to work on my RPC server. Although, now that I see what you're trying to do with it, it doesn't fit into my current design, so I'd have to do design a new service for it. Where would the e-mail be coming from? Right now my SMTP-RPC server only accepts connections from the SL SMTP server, so I'd have to build in a back-door for inbound mail.

The email redirection is pretty much just a fail-safe incase my inworld update server gets deleted and it's key changes.

Emails would come from one object in SL, out to an email address somewhere and redirected to the update server's key.

Well, if the email originates in SL then it wouldn't actually require a revamp or redisign of my current architecture, after. Unfortunately, I'm missing a key component of my system (web site) and not sure how long it will take me to develop, as I'm not normally a web site developer. :-/

All of the other pieces except for member management and services management I could probably have done this week, easily.
