Okay. I don't mind throwing freebie scraps around, but don't just leave me an offline IM saying 'give me this I NEED IT NOW PLZZZ!!!', then when I come online instantly demand I give you something. That's not how it works, kiddies. I have to rez first, then I have to let my inventory load. Oh, and I might actually be in the process of DOING SOMETHING IMPORTANT.

The same goes for looking me up on Yahoo. Don't add me as a freind without, at the very least, a fooking explaination first. On that note, don't ask for things if you're not in SL to receive them.

On that note, I will be putting all of the open source stuff I have into a box that can be had for L$50. If you don't like the price, go bother someone else.

And no, I'm not going to give you a copy of the Prim Reaper, now matter how bad of a dys1337sic you are.

Goes with the territory, Burke. There are reasons I work in SciTE more these days myself.

Tips:
- Grow an alt
- Delete calling cards en masse
- Abuse the busy flag

This is why I don't typical GIVE scripts.

I prefer to tell them how the script is made and make themdo most of the work themselves =D

This weeds out the ppl that just wanna leech off other peoples' hard work.

My problem is more ppl asking me for copies of my games...
I work hours and hours developing a realistic casino game and am expecting to give them a copy or even sell it for a couple hundred linden so they can earn money off of it instead...*sigh

Well have fun with your box hehe

Hi Burke,

I got into that exact same situation in another world (vrml-based). The solution I came to was to price myself out of the market. Pricing your work effectively has a wonderful way of controlling how many requests you receive against your time (and saves having to hide in an alt ;)).

Either that or start asking them to do things you are sure they probably won't do....like hand them a weapon and tell them to bomb some sim first, etc.

I'm about to do that. I mean, I'm paying for scripting solutions myself, if something's out of my range as a coder, I see if someone better isn't willing to do it for money.

I guess I'll just set a price on things like putting titles on prims.

Yeah, doing boring stuff costs ridiculous amounts on my price list.

*edit: but hey, if someone wants a prim title for 2k - i'm ya man LOL *

I'd rather learn how and have learned some from friends. I think it's a good idea to teach someone how rather than just give scripts away. The begging has really gotten bad in the last 5 months, I sometimes just don’t reply :D

Seeing as how most of the scripts on The Prim Reaper are modified 'public' code (intentionally or accidentally so) I do feel some responsibility to share. But usually the code I have has been altered to the point that it would be dangerous in the wrong hands. (ie, where one is fine, a dozen in a small confined space would cause a sim crash)

I do try to help people learn, but for fook's sake, politely ask.

Is there/would it worthwhile to have a web-based repository somewhere that is open for anyone to dump scripts into? My hunch is that having a URL to point script requests at would shoo them away, and actually require they learn something to build the object.

There is a script libary forum right below this one, and there are some scripts on the LSL-Wiki.

I know personally I am a mental midget when it comes to scripting. Latly though I have been itching to do it as I hate asking others to make it for me..specially since I can't pay. Currently I have one of my girls that is going to help me make the scripts I want. I'm gonna approach it from a "Ok is this right?" *had notecard*..."ok show me then the right version" Yes I want it done fast...but I'll be a sucker if I am not gonna take something away from spending the time making it.

I find it far more satisfying to create your own scripts, rather than buy them or hire out for them. And besides, I'm a programmer at heart...LSL is a blast with all its bugs and such to work around...have to make creative solutions that gets your mind pumping ^_^.

When I went to school for computer networking...I about when psychotic and postal learning linux code and such just to make login scripts, etc. Don't even ask me about cisco router programming...yes I did graduate....just took a term or two longer.
