Can I pass a variable from one prim to the next like a shared variable for say a channel? Or be able to pass a that same channel variable between scripts in the same prim?

you can pass it between linked prims using link messaging, you can do the same for scripts, additionally scripts int the same prim can both check the same prim parameter and act upon that (like the description.)

you can pass an integer from a rezzing prim to a rezzed prim in the param section of the rez call (the rezzed prim retrieves it in the on_rez event).

you can additionally pass any text information between two unlinked prims using one of the variaous say commands in conjunction with a listen (but the channel needs to be known in advance)

you can also have both prims check any resource accessible to both, whether it be owner, parcel/region, or http/rpc calls to outside sources).
