can this be done?
I have a multistorey apartment block - is it possible to have a radio in each appartment that can be heard only by people on the renter's access list.
AND
Each apartment able to tune, on their radio, to different streams at the same time?
Oh cause, if it can, I'd like to know how or any products that can do it?
Pleeeeeze

Pleeeeeze The streaming URL is tied to the parcel only. You can have lateral neighbors with different streams, but not vertical neighbors.

OK - I saw somewhere (I think) where a radio could link to another prim within 100 meters - now what that 'Link' is and if it allows transfers sound - I don't know.
What I'm saying is if the root object or prim was on a parcel of land could it communicate sound with a prim outside that parcel?

No. the stream has nothing at all to do with prims and everything to do with the parcel and where the avatar is standing. In fact, it's not about sound at all, really. Whn an avatar stands on a parcel of land, a URL is passed to the client, and the client starts streaming the MP3 music and playing it for you. The SL servers never touch the sound part of the process, and so a script can't touch it. A script can only change the URL assigned to the parcel. So the "link" was probably to set the URL on several seperate parcels at once.

Pleeeeeze I can perhaps offer a clarification here for you that may prove useful. The Silver Stream Network system CAN play any media, and whats more, each media player is not parcel bound, so you can have many individual players in or outside of a parcel, each with their own playlist and all playing different media (including music) to those within the adjustable range. You can use them stacked horizontally and or vertically, great for multi floor installations. Whats more, each player can be set to share to its own group, even if that group has nothing to do with the ownership of the land, so only they can control its functions, there is also a 'public' remote control, which allows anyone to operate it, should you choose to install it. The system does not require media permissions to work, nor does it require deeding permissions (only a single prim server is required to be deeded anywhere on the sim to interconnect the media permissions for all the players installed). You only need 'drop objects and run scripts' permissions to set it up and use it. From our tests, you can run around 30+ units on a sim from a single ingame server. It will also coexist with existing media land based functions and will not override or control them in anyway. Nor will land based media functions interfere with the Silver Stream Network. Soon to be relased is a wearable vHUD Media controller, that when worn in any sim with a Silver Stream Network server deeded, will allow you to play your own media playlist through that HUD, irrespective what is set on the land, and in any parcel that allows scipts to run (same for any media players in SL). The Myth, one media per parcel, is exactly that, and in fact a misquote.

Well I know that you can have many people on 1 parcel with a different video URL set - see the DTV/BDVD cinema in Wainscot - and this doesnt use ANY outside hacks whatsoever, just plain old LSL.
Now whether you can do the same with audio streams I don't know for sure but don't see why not.

It is not a hack.... it uses a ingame function thats been there for a long time, but was ignored due to the overriding Myth.... Silver Stream Network in as open network, in that you can insert and control all your own urls within the limits of the NC contents (max 125), in each player. Many media systems in SL are enclosed, in so much as that you can only use supplied 'prims' in the form of a DVD etc that all they effectively do is load a url from its protected contents. EML-Entertainments (Authorised dealer of the Silver Stream Network) sell these units with full mod rights to the playlist, you can even resize the screens and add frames etc.. or buy a pre-modded version (again with full perms on the playlist), each unit comes with a list of freeview channels to get you started, and start at 600L$ for a full player screen combination unit, with mod rights. As media is played through the QT pluggin, any media (music included, jpgs etc) can all be rendered into the client, via the installed pluggins. Radio, streaming or as a mp3 etc, will all play.
