hi!
I'm looking for a script that divide the chat on a land without subdividing the land.
I have built appartments, and i would like to seperate the chat channel between the appartments. The floor surface is 20 x 30. Do I have to link the floor and put a script in it?
But what kind of script...?
If someone has something for me... please help me...
thank you

You are asking for the impossible.
You can set parcels to block noise/chatter at the border but you cannot use walls or scripts to block either.

Parcels can be set so their borders block spatial audio (and presumably voice), but chat, too? Is this a new feature, or have I been confused about this all along? (Qie wishes he could get in-world and look at the About Land window.) Even with separate parcels, I've always maintained a 20m vertical separation between rental units for casual chat "privacy."

But even if it wouldn't solve the OP's issue, it might be nice to subdivide, so each unit can have its own parcel media streams.

If your apartment floors are at least 20m apart from the others above and below them, it will keeo cross-chat to a minimum, as chat only travels 20m. This is often why people build vertical "stacks" for apartments.

no, I built the appartments one next to the other, so they have common walls.
So if I understood I haven't another possibility as subdivide the land...
right^^ still a little work...

Neither subdividing nor scripting will help with typed chat (on channel zero), if that's what you're asking about. Chat range is strictly a function of how far away you are from the person typing. (I think 20m radius from speaker is regular chat range.) You cannot divide a channel... doing would actually be redundant considering that different channels are provided specifically to allow you to divide up communications.

The only way to keep from seeing your neighbors' typed text in open chat is to mute them.

Another (unattractive) option is to provide tenants intercoms with their own unique channels. They'd have to remember to prefix their text with their channel number but they wouldn't be bothering their neighbors if they stuck to it.

Hi Wildfire, I think I've seen an implementation of that intercom system. You can access it by pushing the blue "IM" button at the bottom of the screen. lol. Seriously though, I am curious what advantages would the proposed intercom system have?

I've used intercoms as part of groups before when infiltrating a club or sim for harmless fun. It's an attachment you wear, and if the other people in the area speak on the hidden channel your intercom is set to, it uses llOwnerSay to speak the text into your ear. (Anyone can type text on a hidden channel, but only a scripted device can hear it, so the telecom's purpose is to sort of rebroadcast the hidden text for your ears only.) So if you wanted to talk with several people in a discreet way but didn't want to use conference IMs, you could use a intercom. Also, with conference IMs I don't think you can add new parties to the conversation without starting a new session... telecoms simply listen on hidden channels though; no conferencing required.
