Is it possible to have a white board that would allow someone useing a tablet PC to draw items and have them show up in SL?

There is no way to dynamically create textures in SL. I don't know of a way to do what you want without seriously limiting the freedom of the drawing. Also, if it were possible, you'd see a lot of whiteboard applications in SL already.

Good idea.

May not be here now but would be very useful. I'll bet the competitors to SL, when they arrive, will have such an addition. And more probably.

HTML on a prim maybe???
Do a search here in the forums. I don't know what it can or can't do yet. _____________________

there's a crazy, roundabnout way you could do this.
Set up a program to video-grab your whiteboard. like using a video-output board on your tablet PC, or a video camera pointed at an ACTUAL whiteboard or something.. and then connect that video feed up to a shoutcast server. Stream that data as quicktime or something, and then go to a given piece of land which you own (like a meeting room) and set the parcel media settings to show the stream. Then simply apply the "bluescreen" media texture to your display prim. It's possible. It might even be reasonable in terms of lag. But my god what a roundabout way to go about it. _____________________

Writeboard solution

Have a look at my markerboard at:
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Rossa/237/246/116 It links to a shockwave webpage that allows you to draw on a board. This is uploaded every 10 seconds and the SL markerboard gets this via a Parcelmedia command. I've also got a multiuser version, but it's between servers at the moment. I'll plonk it at the location above when I've got it sorted out. |

You could use a transparent prim that flys around and drops floating partials based on a list of positions and colors.
You could then move a "paint can" around and use chat messages to change the list. I remember someone selling a working "spray paint can", but I don't know how that one works. |
