Is there a way to find out the key # of an avatar by their name, if the avatar is not currently logged in? I have a database app linked to SL which uses the key to identify a user. I'd like to be able to "pre-setup" a user before they log on, and give them an account in our system, etc.

Can also use http://search.secondlife.com/search.php? . The url for their profile contains their key.

Can also use http://search.secondlife.com/search.php? . The url for their profile contains their key. if the profile shows up... sometimes it doesn't. there are names that have profiles that aren't blocked that don't come up via search... why I dunno, indexing criteria not passed, or some other problem, I really couldn't guess. _____________________

I'll keep that URL bookmarked too! In any case, I found the key I needed through w-hat and my client was happy.
Thanks again! |

It is also built into the Greenlife viewer. Key shows up on top of their profile page.

This routine, which was borked for a long time, is now working again:http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Name2Key_in_LSL It's a lot quicker, I find, than w-hat, and returns results for avatars who haven't, for whatever reason, found their way onto the w-hat database.
The Cool Viewer gives keys, too, on people's profiles, only hidden away at the bottom of the "notes" tab. |

I really don't know.. I haven't tested it extensively but I've used it to find several uuids that weren't available from w-hat, and I've yet to feed it a name and not get back a result. I'll have to dig up my test names and check... it'd be nice if so, since I prefer not to add keys from visitor logs to anyone's databases, just on principle of minimal work done. _____________________
