Is there any other method of getting the Position and Rotation of a child prim without having to put a script in that prim? I'm really trying to cut down scripts, and just to have a script in a prim just to get teh postion and rotation on a rare occation does seem like such a waste.

Click on the object to edit it. Click on the "Edit Linked Parts" radio button, then click on "more", and select "Object".
Now click on the child prim and you should now see all the position, size and rotation numbers. hth |

I should have been more clear. I have a script in the root prim and want the script to be able to get the child prim rot and pos. But this can't be done without sending a link message backand forth within the link set. Would be nice to be able to get to something like...
vector llGetLinkPos(integer linknum) or rotation llGetLinkRot(integer linknum). Is this even worth putting in the feature suggestions? I know I'm living in a dream world but is always nice to dream. heh. |

You would get that in a round about way. llGetPos will get you the root position, then lGetLocalPos would get you the local position wrt the root. Just add them. Similarly for the rotation components. Use link messages to communicate up and down the link chain. Also see: http://rpgstats.com/wiki/index.php?title=LlGetLocalPos
EDIT: Sorry, you've already explained that you don't want to do this. I would think that with mono the linked message overhead becomes trivial. Mono will probably happen before your proposal is implemented. Be very patient! |

I think ed44 is in a hurry today
![]() I am sorry to say I do not know of any way to do this, and even more sorry to say that I think feature suggestions are a complete waste of time. |

I believe your are right Robby, which is why I just thru the idea out there for the feature suggestion. Been scripting for over a year now. most of my stuff is all complex rotation within link set and Link set interacting with other link set. Currently scripting the Robotic arm for the Shuttle. Just making trying to make idiot proof. and have given up on the hole idea of a feature suggestion.
