Fireworks Broken

About a moth or so ago fire works based on the tax rocket script and the St. Patrick's rocket stopped working properly. They tend to fly farther and faster than they used to (I can adjust for that) but more distressingly, they no longer rez textures when they explode! These days I'm lucky to see one poof of smoke and a single texture upon explosion. Has something in the recent updates borked the scripts? Is there a way to force the textures to pre-load?
I've attached a text document with the two scripts pasted in. I would love to find out why this isn't working anymore!

The llMakeExplosion(), llMakeFire(), llMakeFountain and llMakeSmoke() functions were removed from LSL. You can still call them, but they now get converted into a llParticleSystem(). Maybe that conversion has broken the fireworks.

If those functions no longer work, is there a way to replicate them using other commands?

Aka. how can an ignorant &^%$# make this work the way it used to?

There was a posting about this a month or two ago.
Its really a case of reading the wikki and playing with the parameters until you get something similar.
