I am getting the itch to start building homes and what not. I'll be the first to admit that I know nothing about scripting. With that said, does anyone know of a good script that I can buy/use/distribute with my builds that will tint windows, and lock doors, etc.
I own a beach house that I purchased, and when I type in /##menu, I get a blue drop down that allows me to lock doors, tint windows, allow others to access the doors and windows, etc. I wold like something that, however I am also ok with a script for only the windows where someone just touches an object and the tint (shades) cycles on each touch, etc.
I hope this is the right forum to ask this question. I'm so new to building that it seems daunting at times, but after building my first home, there is a sense of pride (even though it's not as good as what the pros out there build). I am gathering that the harder part will be texturing.
In any case, thats another thread.... but on window tinting and door scripts.... any thoughts idea suggestions?

You'll find a number of window tinting sytems in the 'Scripting Library' forum; search it for 'windows'. Not least is this one: /54/ac/109800/1.html which I fondly remember as one of the first scripts I started playing around with when I took up LSL. It made a good springboard to more sophisticated things. Good luck

Why bother with tinted windows and locking doors?
11-07-2007 21:15
I've looked at building houses and I've built two. I built my own door script, to make sure a double door opens properly no matter which one you click, to enable simple rotation of the door/house, etc. And I've thought about adding a lock mechanism like you see in popular doorscripts. But really.... why bother?
People can move thru locked doors, people can move thru walls even. Granted, it's slightly harder now that the "sit" command tries to move your AV, but still quite achievable.
And tinted windows... Well, with Torey's guide on how to use your camera better and further (I've "camviewed" over 2 regions away)... it's pretty useless. Sure, a tinted window means someone just walking by won't see what you're doing inside... but on the other hand a tinded window draws attention because you're hiding something and some people will want to know what that is.
So... extra scripting, extra lag, with no effect... Why bother?

From: Lyn Mimistrobell ...Why bother?... hhmm...probably one of the most most peculiar "scripting tips" I've yet seen in the 'Scripting Tips' forum in response to an OP asking for scripting tips.

he does have a point though... but a few things come to mind
locking doors are useful for keeping out casual mayhem, combined with no object entry and no build on the land it can make it harder (not impossible) for random peole to get in
tinting window need not be to block the outside viewer, they are usful is you don't want to see what's outside too
both are reasonable privacy screens for people that don't want to run afoul of the new 'adult content' mess that LL wants to implement w/ ID verification... want to play around at pixel sex or other kinkiness, lock the doors on your private land and tint the windows... no need to set 'adult content' flags
door with locks are easy and need not be laggy, the same goes for window tinting... it's just that many of the common scripts for them ARE (open listens, polling scanners, etc)...
heck for a few extra prims a small parcels can even simulate ban lines without the ugly red lines that normally come with it

If you want to buy and have the lindens then NDE are the best window and door systems Ive used. Theyre expensive but not as expensive as having to buy cheaper systems and then find theyre not that good or dont do what you want.

I make prefabs and have been playing around with window tint systems, but havent really found one I like. What I have started doing it tinting the window prim on the outside only, but inside is still clear. People inside can see out... people outside cant see in (depending on your tint) and no script used.
