If I have a scripted object and then have another scripted object within it. In which way would I communicate from the object to the embedded objects? I was thinking about using a linked message but I don't know which one is proper.

If you mean that the second object is in the inventory of the first object, you can't. In that case, the second object is not rezzed and thus is not linked. Its scripts are not even running. You would have to rez it before you could communicate with it in any way.

I was figuring it couldn't be that easy. Once it's rezzed I'm concerned that any communication with it would susceptible to lag though and cause a problem in my application. So I think I have to just code in the info.

if the seond script is within a child prim (or even the same prim but not within a prim in inventory) then link messages are the way to go (and probably no mod if you are concerned with communication security)
