I have been making dance balls for months, using the solop script. I've given them to friends from my inventory and they would rezz them and we'd dance. Now, I'll have a working ball...until I take it inventory. When I rez it again, it doesn't work. It's not lag, as I waited a long, long time. I've had a friend try it, same result. Resetting the solop script does not fix it. Resetting the mainanim scripts does not fix it . Taking a copy when in Edit does not help either. Is this a new bug? Any ideas?

Check if the place where you were rezzing them has scripts enabled.
This looks like you rezzed it in a place where you are not allowed to run scripts.

I tried on my own land, where they are enabled, and in 3 other sandboxes... thank you for the thought . I also tried one of the free balls with the same scripts, but made by someone else. Same thing happened.

Just double check to make sure the scripts are running (Check the "Run" but in the edit script window)?
Can't think of anything that would cause them to stop running when taken to inventory, but it might be a new bug...worth double checking at least.

Thank you for your reply. I checked and the little checkbox "Running" is checked. Good suggestion.

Just to clarify:
You spawn a Poseball, add your animation to it and everything works fine?
Then you pick up the Posball to inventory (Right Click Menu -> Take)?
Next you place the Poseball down again, and.. nothing? Can you sit on it? Does it play any animation?

Basically yes, that's what's happening, except that with these, you don't sit on them, u touch or left click.

I finally got in-world, tried, but can't replicate the problem with the "standard issue" Solop single-prim dance machine. So, wondering about details of the failure mode experienced. I guess, for starters: Each time you rez from Inventory, new script instances will require PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION--does it get far enough to ask for those when you touch the dance prim? The standard Solop server also does some llSetText() with number of dancers, etc.--does that get updated? Any script errors appear?

Thank you, all, for your help.I guess my Solop server script got corrupted somehow. I took a fresh copy from Evil's post, and now it's working. It is very odd that it would get corrupted in more than one object though... Mysteries of life, even Second Life
