Is it true that the only effective way to manipulate a child prim in a link set is to put a script in it that responds to link messages? As far as I can see the only functions that let you modify another prim are llSetLinkAlpha() and llSetLinkColor() - everything else has to be done from a script contained within the prim to me modified.

The reason I ask is that I'm trying to make a game like Prim Attack, just as a learning exercise. That has 64 pieces on the board at a time and the only way I can see it working is to have a script run inside every one. It seems a tad inefficient is all :)
