OK, I have some 200+ prim linked objects. Each prim has some scripts and items inside. Having now learned about item permissions, I feel a need to edit the permissions of the contents. Is there a way to use a script to set the contents permissions of child prims?

There is a command for it but you need to be a linden to use.

Unfortunately not. There is only a function on getting what the currenty permissions are of an item in the contents of where the script is:
