Basically, a HUD is just a prim (or set of prims) which, when attached in the "HUD position", become visible only to the wearer. So, the simplest is to just rez a cube, put in your script(s), add any texture, and "attach to HUD". Then, you can play around with things from there.

I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear with my first post. I want to use the HUD for animations, i.e., walking, dancing, etc.

Do a search for the ZHOA hud;its free and great. You can add your own animations to it.

So then...you will do exactly what Baron said...except also add your desired animations to the HUD.

There are quite a few variations of the free/open-source Franimation Overrider out there--of which the ZHAO AO is a HUD-driven version. I would suggest taking a look at these scripts, as they are (or at least should be) open-source.

Ok, I guess I'm either really stupid or I'm missing something simple. I've got the ZHAO thingy and I took out the scripts it came with and replaced them with scripts I wanted to try - and nothing works.

Is there a tutorial for dummies or something like that I might read?

So you wish to put animations into an " Animation Override HUD " aka a ( AO ) ?

Depending on witch AO you have here are the basic steps needed .

1/ Rez the item to the ground.

2/ right click it and select edit and click on the " More button " if not allready active.

3/ Now in the edit box you will see a tabb called " Contents " click it and it will show you the scripts held inside the AO and allso a note card usualy called " empty "

4/ open your inventory and find the anim you want to put in the AO and drag it into the content tabb that has the scripts and notecard .

OK thats the easy bit ...to get it to work you now need to make the script recognise your anim to do this ..

1/ in the content tabb open up the notecard called empty and scroll down to the type of anim you used for this example lets say you used a walk anim ...scroll down the not for a line that says " walk 1 "

2/ directley under it put in the " Exact name " of the anim you dragged from your inventory ...Remember it has to be exactley the same as the wording of your anim .

3 / Click save and take back the AO from the ground to your inventory and select attach to HUD

Ok this part differs form AO to AO ..some recognise the edit you made to the notecard ..some dont .

On your AO it may have a button called " Load" ...If so click it and it may ask you witch note card to load .. Click " Empty " wait for a few seconds for it to tell you that your edit has loaded and switch your AO on

you should now be able to see the diffrent walk anim that you used .

Repeat all the above steps to add other anims , I recomend you do them one at a time and test .

Hope this helps but if not feel free to contact me in-world and i will help you set up a working AO

I found some instructions, and I have to put the scripts on the notecard in the HUD!

And now I'm even more confused.

DON'T remove the scripts in the AO :)

Thanks everybody for trying to help.

I think the first problem is that you are calling "animations" "scripts".

You do not need to do anything with the scripts in your AO.

What you do need is to place your animations into your AO 'prim' and then type the name of each animation in the appropriate place of your reader notecard.
