Heyos
Not really looking for extreme specifics on how to do it or anything, but just wish to start a discussion on the limits of AI within SL.
As I think we all know, true AI in SL is...well..not plausible. I don't know if it's technically possible in some manner, but plausible? Not really. It'd take far too many scripts, databases, etc etc.
HOWEVER, how close to AI can we get with LSL?
If, say, we utilized multiple scripts for various possible statements and actions, could we accurately encompass much of anything in the way of a non-learning AI with LSL? Something that could react generally acceptably for most given situations?
We could easily(Relatively) have it respond to mathematics, I think, and though I'm uncertain the limit of scripts and notecards within a single object, I believe we could have a base communication script relaying to others to formulate responses in a manner that could at least seem coherent, if nothing more.
And so, my question to you amazing scripters, that know the limit of LSL (To some degree) and SL's capabilities, is a non-learning, basic AI possible in Second Life? Could we someday expect to see SLex flooded with 'Prim Friends' that will actually hold conversations to some degree?
Or is it just a fantasy, one that we can hope for but never grasp?
My question applies mainly to pure LSL and notecard driven AI. I understand that it would be more possible to accomplish with various functions that extend beyond SL, to access larger databases and whatnot, but this question is not extending to those, generally speaking.
So there ya have it.
Discuss?

A basic Eliza like script is in the old lsl wiki. http://www.lslwiki.net/lslwiki/wakka.php?wakka=LibraryConversationAIMy general feelings is that LSL is not suited for AI without accessing external information, and then if you have to access the external information the processing might as well be external also. When mono comes to the grid it's hard to say what the impact will be and things may change.

Conversational AI on the Way.

I work for a company that does conversation AI and I'm in the process of porting our Web UI into second life script. Sofar I have a simple Proof of Concept on our tech, but I'm hoping soon to have it available for our VerbotsOnline user base to be able to use. If anyone is interested in playing with the scripting before its available for SL, you can check out www.VerbotsOnline.com and sign up for a few account. You can buy an account and do serious scripting but its fun just to play with for free.

i think alot of people put too much into AI
it can be as simple as an if statement, and as complex as a brain
can something hold a semi coherent conversation totally in LSL, sure, its just a list of words and a crapton of if's, we already do simple forms of this with listens

Personal, I'm of the mind that it is plausible, but would take too much in the way of resources to be practical. Anyhow..bedtime! So..short post from me.

there once was a company that made a program with the capabilities of a 6-8 year old to make assumptions where to find a certain hidden object within sl based on experiences.

I too believe it is plausible that 'true' AI is ultimately possible, but I feel that under the current level of AI development, it's not really possible anywhere let alone SL. I think more simplistic examples of AI, such as mimicking lower life forms such as bugs and such would be most doable in SL at this stage in the game. http://www.secondscripter.com
