Does anyone know what digit of the avatar key is most likely to be completely random? In other words are bits of it meaningful?

I've not seen any evidence that the bits in any key are meaningful. They either are hashed, or non-colliding random UUIDs, or some combination of both.

a key is just a really big number (32^16 or 128bits) that provides a uniform space with which to make unique assigments...

LLmay of may or may not use a particular system for grouping those keys, using such thing as random assignment, particular ranges limited to av's, last names, asset types, 'created by', etc...

if you REALLY want to know how they assign them you could ask them(best of luck), or run comparisons on available keys (key2name databases would be a good place to start). also note that each sim has it's own subset of these for rezzed objects

see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UUID for a universal description of keys

If you look in the old wiki under Client Asset Keys:

http://lslwiki.net/lslwiki/wakka.php?wakka=clientassetkeys

It has a list of a few of the keys. Looking at just textures, there is no discernable pattern.

Believe it or not 15,960 avatar keys was a lot once upon a time~

Here are some newer stats, V is the first digit in the 3rd field.

edit:
Here's stats for each individual character: http://w-hat.com/keydistribution.txt
(ran on a live db, so the overall totals won't match for different characters)

Never noticed this one before. The first character of the 4th group seems to be distributed evenly between 8, 9, a, b.
