Are moving/rotating avatar attachments really impossible?

I know the "official" word is that it's not possible, but occasionally I hear secondhand about someone managing to do it without resorting to alpha-texture tricks. Can anyone here verify that they have witnessed this themselves, and possibly speculate as to how such a feat might be achieved?

Maybe it would be possible to attach one object, that on attach would res another object, and that object could be scripted to fallow the first object. So it wouldn't be attached to you, but it would be like it was attached to you.

The cool thing is, you could have that object res another object that would fallow that object

ya not what your asking, but I thought it might be some thing you'd be interested in.

you can use key framing where you hide and show prims via textures. I believe target omega works as well. You can change the size of prims too...

It's been a while since i've played with attachments in this way.

Kurt: That's a neat idea. Unfortunately, such an object would always lag behind to some degree due to script delays, so it wouldn't be a very convincing way to give it the appearance of an attachment.

Strife: I know about using alpha textures to show/hide prims -- that's what I was referring to when I mentioned "alpha-texture tricks". Unfortunately, I have yet to find a method that allows for a high "framerate" while maintaining reasonable prim synchronization.

Also, I had tried using target omega on an attachment the other day, thinking there might be a chance it would work since it does rotations differently. No such luck. Even if it's a child prim to a non-rotating parent, it refuses to rotate once attached to the avatar.

you *could* do it with particles between very closely spaced prims and do it like keyframing. that might give better results then texutres. But then it might look kind of funky.

With custom animations it is now possible! Even though an attatchment can still posess no moving parts, you can attatch and attatchment on a bodypart that is being animated. The attatchment will move with the body part.

This allows you to do limeted things like flap wings and tails and such. But fully functional cybernetic weapons and such are still not very fesable. Experement with poser if you can manage a copy.

If it is still impossible, then how are the different pet attachments i.e devil, saint, angel etc possible? :D

I picked mine up in the Luna Mall for only 200 if I recall, in case you're reading this and dont know what Im talkinga bout :)
