Hey all,

Not sure if this is the right place to post my question, but anyway i need to post it somewhere.

I use Natasha Pike's FL HUD when in world and i always ask my friends if i can add them to it because it uses the LNAME KEY and do not need for the other party to approve.

Now lately i have gotten signals from RL friends that also is in SL that they might track my online status with similar tools... so my questions is:

1. Is it anyway i can avoid this at all without creating a new avie?
2. Using such a tool isn't that a violation of the privacy in SL, as it does not require any approval from the person being added?

Natasha's tool can be found here http://slurl.com/secondlife/Jeju/202/232/91
Basically the command to add a person is /22 fladd name

Basically the way to add a person to the HUD is: /22 fladd name LNAME KEY

If you've got a question about a companies product, you're probably better off asking them about it.

To my knowledge, if somebody is tracking you when you get online and such with your UUID there is no way to stop it. The best advice I could give you is to file an abuse report for harrassment.
But if I am wrong I'm sure somebody soon will tell me.

It just takes a couple of minutes to create a script to do exactly what you are saying and I am sure a few of them are out there. You dont even really need a script thou to see if someone is online.

Are you a member of a group? Next time you are inworld look at your group info and you can see there the members that are online. Have a freind that you want to see if they are online? Just join one of the groups they belong to. Too lazy to create a script or join a group? Just send a ping and if you don't get the user is offline message then they are online.

So there really isn't a way to stop it no matter what you do and yes some people don't like it. Personally it doesn't bother me. I either don't answer and might even mute someone if I don't know them. If they are a freind and they constantly boher me as soon as I pop online then they don't stay a freind for long.

it does bring up a point about groups though....

IMO groups should set MEMBERS_ARE_VISIBLE to FALSE

/rant

fyi you can drop inventory on them too, if you don't get a "user offline window" well.... you get the idea

i can see you consern Linnrenate Crosby.
But the LNAME KEY you refering to is easy to optain from other places

LNAME KEY = UUID of the person. you can find that on sites like w-hat.com and many others.

I my self made a script that i cud simpel check if a friend was online or not using w-hat's service by geting uuid of a avetar.

i wont say i doing anyting wrong with that..
But if sombody using you uuid to mesure how mutch you are online widout you premision.
I wud say they breaking few laws and trust as a service deliver..

Forgot:p

As for turning it off or hide from it you cant.
And i hope LL dont insert any function to hide from it cus it wud probly break more usefull items then bad tings..
