I've been trying to work on a simple rotation script but I can't ope the script in the sim that I want to use it in. I have moved to another sim and it opens and I can edit it. Is this due to the performance statistics of the sim? If so which performance variable is likely to be indicate the problem?

Sounds like the sim you were in that wouldn't let you open it is broken and needs to be restarted.

Can't really say that there is any one sim performance metric which would indicate the problem; I have seen it happen in otherwise healthy sims, and I have seen it happen in sims that were on the verge of crashing hardcore.

If it doesn't work in one, move to another and alert the owner of the first one to restart it (or report it to the Lindens).

We had a similar problem, and a range of others in Cristat on the mainland.

I think all LL had to do was restart the sim - that is what the person on the phone said he was going to do (I was calling from someplace that I cannot login into SL). I was in the sim after that and all of the problems were gone.

Thanks for this. I will do the dev on a different sim and let the lindens know about the other one.
