Varying rotation scripts?

You've seen the rotating prims, in aquariums and such, where the fish circles around and around the base prim.

Is there a way to script a rotator so that the moving prim moves at a variable speed and maybe even stops briefly?

Is there a way to script a rotator so that the moving prim moves on a variable path and maybe reverses direction?

I did this to some freebie dolphins.

At startup time, just add or subtract a small random number from the rotation rate. To wander randomly, just add a wander random script to the root prim.

Note the good wander scripts stay on your property, stay above ground, stay within X meters of startpos, and so on. Defining Good and operationalizing it is the hard part.

And where would I find examples of the "wander random" script?

I'm better at textures than at scripting.
