hello all,
<generic "I'm new to SL" comment> <generic "It's really cool, and so are all you people" comment> <generic "Same goes for this forum" comment>
Now we've got THAT out of the way...
I've had a jolly good trawl through the forum, archive included, and as far as I can tell this hasn't come up directly for a decent amount of time:
Why is it not possible to set the frequency of a sound played by a script? There are SO many millions of reasons why this would be useful, and given that doppler is already implemented anyway it really wouldn't be hard at all. Just a single extra param to pass to the client, and on to the clientside sound code.
Has anyone raised this before? Does anyone think it would be worth suggesting to LL as a prospective feature?
Also, if parcel audio streaming is done simply by setting a parameter on the client (as the stream apparently doesn't go through the SL server, it's just negotiated between SL client and data source) why not have a similar feature that can be attached to a prim, not just the parcel? Perhaps a more restrictive limit on the volume so it's purely for local sound? The whole 10-second wav thing is just such a horrible hack I can barely stand to think of it.
Your's enquiring speculatively,
=me=

See, the forums have includes, why doesn't LSL? It has been mentioned before. Yes, I think it would very much be a good thing to suggest to LL as an improvement to sounds control, especially if it can be tweaked like the volume of an attached sound is tweaked. Very useful. Of course, if they'd fix some of the current sound problems first... Well, streaming has it's problems, too. There are places where people pay for every byte they download, and SL is already a pricy toy, imagine some twit setting up 150 prims each with a differnt streaming source... Bleh.
