A friend of mine made a tip jar script for me that had a reset timer on it... right now it resets every 24hrs... what I want to do is make it where the owner can change when it resets through a notcard and not through the script.. what is the code that I put in the script to read the note card and what would I put in the note card... just give some examples
thank you
P.S. the reason why I havn't ask my friend to do this is cause he hasn't been on and I have no other way of getting ahold of him..

Seems like you have several choices. One is to post your current script here, in hopes that someone will modify it for you for free.
Two is to pay someone to modify it.
Three is to start reading about scripts, and trying to do it yourself.

hmmmm actually I wont. I have recently been chastised for 'over posting' and taking all the fun out of it for people, so I'm no longer going to post any code.

Newgate! You're kidding, right?

Newgate, I hope the preceding is in jest. I can't even BEGIN to tell you how much I've learned about scripting by reading the forums. And you are, IMHO, the single most knowledgable and helpful person on the forums today. If you're feeling shat upon for 'overposting', rest assured, there are some of us who are Cheering You On! If you're just feeling used or overworked, post snippets that answer questions, with 'pseudo code' around them, so folks know where they fit in the script flow, BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, KNOW THAT YOU ARE MUCH APPRECIATED.

Newgate, this is the free world. If you feel like posting something, you go right ahead. Just because someone thinks you post too much doesn't mean that there aren't ten more of us (well, at least two) who think your posts are incredibly useful. Or, you could just go re-write the LSL Wiki.

I'll pop in here and say the same as the others. Screw what some people think or say to you Newgate. What do you think? They are your peers because they have an earlier SL start date or what???? The measure of a person both here and in SL is not how famous they are or how much money they squeeze out of the other residents, it is, do they help others and help SL grow?
Personally I don't give a d*mned what anyone thinks. I have been shown the way to help here in this forum. I have been shown how to help all of the new scripters here in the last couple of weeks. So many new names here. I learned how to script, I learned how to help, I learned from YOU.
There are new names here asking the same questions we did at one point, but there are also quite a few names here that are answering questions here now instead of asking them. We all learned from you Newgate. So quit posting complete scripts if you want to, but don't do it because someone said not to. We however will continue to do it anyway. We will continue to help the next generation and teach them how a forum should be. One day too some of them will also start to answer questions here.

Thanks for the praise Guys, you're making me blush. I'm certainly not what you make me out to be Stirling! I'm still a noobie, I have a limited knowledge of only a small subset of LSL, most of it built up by playing with scripts written by others or reading the wikki or this forum.
But I digress. I apologies to one and all who have had Newgy scripts shoved down their throats when all they wanted was a hint. It wont happen again.

You know, I can kinda see the issue when somebody asks for the time and somebody tells them how to make a watch, instead of just giving them the time.. but don't back off completely on posting code.. Remember it's not only the OP that your responses and your examples are helping.. it's others too.

I for one welcome our code-posting overlords. Don't let a few disparaging comments put a wet blanket on your helpfulness, Newgy!

Give a man a fish

Remember it's not only the OP that your responses and your examples are helping.. it's others too. There has always been the 'give a man a fish / teach a man to fish' issue. I posted the way I did for a variety or reasons, but mainly because I believed that a reasonably well documented script, at least i think I comment reasonably well, would help as much as possible. I will continue to post here, but code will be kept to a minimum unless asked for.

You can find my tipjar script here for $750 (copyable), if you're more interested in the result than learning to script. (If it doesn't have the featurues you need, IM me ingame; if they're generally useful features chances are I'll add them for free.) If you really want help scripting, you need to post more info or do a little more studying. Or hope that Newgate posts you a solution. (Note that since you didn't post much info, Newgate's code would work but not necessarily do what you want.) Newgate, please continue posting scripts! Lots of people benefit, and it's your right to do so.

Newgate, I too find your script posts very informative and useful. My method for getting help is to search the forums for examples. To date, I have not had to post a question for assistance due to the plethora of exampes made available by scriptors like yourself. Don't let it stop now I help when and where I can, as well. With all the questions that have been posted and answered, just think how many have been able to find their answers by just searching. I consider these Content Creator forums to be worth a mint as a resource. --Trevor
