Need help w/donation script

I have a wishing well that is scripted to take donations. What additional scripting can I use so that it will keep track of donors names (and amounts if possible)? I'm thinking it would be something along the lines of a visitor counter, but how would I script it to only count and keep track of people who paid it, as opposed to everyone who comes within range of it?

I apologize if this is a basic question - I'm still fairly new to scripting, and haven't had much experience modifiying scripts.
