I'm working on a script to override the "standup" animation (where you splat on your face and then get back to your feet), but instead of overriding it, it seems to blend that with my own animation to cause this sort of epileptic seizure every time I drop from ten feet. I was investigating Francis' AO, as I know it seems to have some kind of hack to get around it, but I can't make heads of tails of this complicated script! And the hacks and bugs part of the wiki didn't seem to help me. So I tried just running llStopAnimation("standup"  when I hit the ground, but that locks my av and I can't move until I sit down and stand up! Does anybody have any idea how to get around all this? I'm tearing my hair out! T_T

I'm tearing my hair out! T_T What priority is the animation you are using? It may be low enough that some of the default animation is a higher priority and blends. The other explanation is that your animation is a higher priority but doesn't change/use all the joints in it. If the joint in your animation doesn't change from the first preset frame, then the SL client will play all other animations on that joint instead.

Nope, using all joints - and I thought it might be the priority, so I switched to priority 4, to the same result. The only way I seem to get a smooth animation is by cancelling "standup", but as soon as the animation is stopped, my av freezes.
It makes me very sad! D:
