I have this tree that grows up and sprouts branches and clumps of leaves. llRezObject’s them then llCreateLink’s them into the tree. Works fine for a while, but sometimes mutated trees grow up with missing leaves and branches. Reading the forums I heard about possible rezzing failures. I checked for object_rez sending me a NULL_KEY: Nope never happened. I tried putting in a 2 second timer and llSaying an error message if object_rez wasn’t called in that time. Nope, THAT message never happened. But some of the branches still never appeared. I limited each tree to 3 branches and 5 prims with leaf texture maps. Still no show. Then I noticed some strange things: If I select the visible parts of the tree and unlink them, suddenly all the missing parts appear! Then I tried logging off and back on again, and all the missing parts of all the trees are there! Now it will let me select them. Then I tried just flying around the island. When I come back, all the missing parts of all the trees finally appear. But if I don’t do this, selecting the tree only selects the currently visible parts of the tree, as if the lost parts are not there.
What’s going on here? Is there some setting in my viewer to make it cache more things in the video card? Is there a way to force the screen to refresh?

That really resembles good old fashioned packet loss. In the SL preferences, general tab, near the bottom, turn off "show search panel in overlay bar". This will give you a couple of small bars in the top right. If in the left-hand bar you see lots of red, go into the prefs' Network tab and slide the maximum bandwidth down some until you can get the red down to once in a while or gone. The editing twiddles are forcing the sim to send update packets and that's how your viewer notices what it missed before.
If you're not seeing that red, there could be something else up, but missing prims usually come from there.

No, the left-hand bar is seldom red. I tried increasing my maximum bandwidth and it still didn't show up red. This lost prim thing only happens to me when I'm pushing the sim by rezzing a lot of prims to grow a forest. The most recent trees are all missing parts. I had a friend follow me around and she could see branches that I could not. I have a good (Nvidia) gaphics card but I wonder if there are some setup issues...

Have you tried getting a friend to say what she sees?

Yes! If someone else looks, she sees the trees without the missing branches! Although if I go away and come back, I also see that. So I need her to hang around and see if the younger trees start growing with missing branches in her viewer also.
