I've looked around a bit in the Wiki and here, and maybe I am just missing it.
Is there a built in command for getting an Avatars name, so that I can then return it in chat? Like NAME$ or getName, or something.

Thanks

That really depends where your trying to use it. If it is in response to something they say, the listen() event passes the spoken object/av's name and key. If it is upon touch, use llDetectedName(0). If it is just a general proximity thing, it would then again be llDetectedName(), however possibly a different interation.

... or for attached-to avatar see the example at attach event
... or for owner name see the Q and A at the bottom of llGetOwner |
