Hello all you wonderful scripters :)
Ive just built a fancy set of katanas, and id like to script and animate them to work for combat sims. Now im not fussed about what combat scripts they are, dcs, fcrs, ccs, etc. I just want to be able fight with them really. Id like some help here. If any of you now how to do it or where i can find the scripts to do it, it would be much appreciated. Ive only found a DCS melee enhancment script on slx, is that what i need? If so, it says that i need to preanimate my weapon, now i know this aint the place to ask but does that need a script to, or does that mean just chucking a load of anis into the contents of the weapon?
If anyone could help id really appreciate it, ive been trying to solve this for ages.

My understanding of this type of melee weapon is that it uses an animation script that is triggered when you press the left mouse button and a direction key.

From here things get a bit hazy depending on the combat system used. Generally the script also sends out a message when the anim is triggered. The combat system responds in kind with a "hit" and damage is taken by whoever you were attacking.

Obviously in this kind of combat damage is not scaled and being hit with a katana has the same effect as being hit with a kipper.

There are many systems available for scripting weapons of this nature the problem comes when you want to have them work on a number of systems.

Consider looking up Lightsaber Construction Kit for a good starting point that contains the relevant scripts and a bunch of animations to allow sword style combat. This system seems to work with most combat systems and is adaptable to weapons other than lightsabers with a bit of tweaking and some new sounds.

excellent thanks so much, ive actually already made plenty of sabers with the LCK-A lightsaber kit, but i didnt think it could be used in other weapons. so all i have to do is get rid of the glow scripts and prims, and saber sounds and add new sword sounds. thanks

Yup that's it exactly. There are a few sounds available for sword style weapons and you can adapt the script to have your avi draw and scabbard the sword instead of turn the lightsabre sound on and off. The standard anims will work fine for most swords but obviously there are other packages around.

LCK Turbo has some nice added bonuses and works a bit smoother than the standard pack in my opinion.

If you want to sell your products based on this the creator (can't remember name) asks you IM for permission. I have done that a number of times but have never heard back from them so maybe they don't copme in any more.

Problem Solved

This is for any one looking at this thread looking for help. i solved the problem. If youve built a weapon or just wanna script it, look at the Battlezone kit by Mykael Goodman. Used in the battlezone sims, however tested on many combat systems. its 600L$, just search it inworld and ull get it. Very easy to use, add ur own anis really easily, comes with sounds and sheath scripts as well. Very good product. Also comes with scripts for daggers, axes, bows, spears etc. very good solution for any one looking for a little help in this field.
Also as explained in previous posts, the LCK A/turbo lightsaber kit, works fine as well. Comes with loads of extra anis, far more than many others, but the sounds are obviously saber sounds :( Also u will need to remove the glow script and some glow prims/extra prims. But thats that, find yourself some sword sounds and there are plenty of extra fighting forms to upgrade your sword, which is good :)
Hope that helps anyone in a similar position i was in.
