Hello everyone,

I'm pretty new to LSL and its functions. My question is: is there a way to find out an avatars gender? I already tried the search function but couldn't find anything.

Would be happy if someone could give me a hint. Or just tells me that it's impossible so I could stop searching ;).

Thank you

omg... dont bring up gender.. you'll start a mess.. suffice to say, avatar's do not really have a gender, as one can easily change shape from male to female and vice versa.

There's no tag or anything in the actual avatar.

I've seen scripts *ask* "Are you Male, Female or Herm?" though, if you're looking for something like an answer that lets your script use the proper pronouns.

Probably should have a pop up menu where the user can select Male (Him,His), Female (Her, hers), Herm (pick whatever pronoun least makes your eyes bleed, I like sie, sier), None (It, its) and use the responses accordingly?

What about reading the clothing a person is wearing and parsing for the word "male" or "female"? This wouldn't work in all instances but it would work in some, if it's possible to read in a player's worn inventory.

Or would be nice to at least get the male/female tag from the shape an AV is wearing. Just my 2 cents tho.

You can't read an avatar's worn inventory (unless there's actually a script in the worn object allowing you to do so).

Even reading the setting from the Shape wouldn't necessary work - some prim-based avatars (like robots, tinies, etc.) will use female Shapes as their base because they're smaller - but the avatar isn't necessary female.

Since there's no current way to do this, you could try submitting a feature request to LL to make this a parameter each AV could set, and that could be retrieved via LSL.

Or alternately, you could come up with some new protocol, and see if you can get everyone to use it (maybe two versions of a walk animation everyone would always use: one for female, one for male, or some other non-laggy method to specify gender).
