ok. im building a trebuchet and i have now found out that the havoc engine for the game doesnt support peg-and-hole physics. so what would be your suggestions on scripting to make it work? thanks

llSetAlpha and llRezObject. Unless you're addicted to having it actually do the physics.

To expand on this suggestion:
Use a position sensor to detect when the basket is nearing the point at which the projectile will be released. Set the attached projectile to invisible using llSetAlpha. Rez a physical, temp-on-rez duplicate of the projectile at the same location, and apply an impulse to make it simulate the flight of the projectile. It's clunky, and won't ever be totally realistic, but that's the only way I know to do it in SL. |

physical trebuchet's are possible in sl, or used to be anyway. I have witnessed several avitars being tossed into the next sim. along with cows pigs and countless cubes.
This was during the old havoc times, so perhaps something has changed. But I have to belive the new setup is up to it. The trebuchet's of the time used pin in socket piviots, and physical counter weights. Theres at least one group devoted to abusing sl physics, look em up and ask there, I'm sure it would be worth the trouble. |

It's still possibe to build them. I built one recently and have tossed AV's across a couple of sims. I used a torus and a cylinder to make the hinge points.

not a trebuchet, but belies the pin in socket claim.

Check out a group called Virtual Mechanics inworld, and talk to Emilin... she's done mostly work in huge clock escapements, and gearing, and ginormous piston engines, but I think a trebuchet would be a change up she'd enjoy. (she also has an SL6B booth with several physics driven toys on display.
tell her I sent you, so she can thank and/or hurt me later for it =X _____________________
