I'm trying to determine the creator of an object in the contents of another object with llGetInventoryCreator... This works fine - most of the time... but sometimes, I have a «creator unknown» shown... I even have objects I made in my inventory that say creator unknown. As soon as I rez them, the creator shows fine - but when I take them back to inventory, the creator's gone...

How comes?

If memory serves me...

When you view the creator of an object inworld you are looking at the creator of the root prim. When you look at the creator of an object in inventory you are not necessarily looking at the root-prim's creator but the entire objects creator (all prims and embedded inventory).

I'm surprised there aren't some caveats on the wiki about this. I'll look into updating things.

These three issues touch on the subject:

Thanks Strife & Osgeld...

This clarifies a lot. I voted on the first Jira as this is exactly the problem I have...

The Objects I'm having issues with contain a script that was made by someone else, thus, the creator shows «unknown»... :(

I'd really prefer that the object would show the creator, no matter what other ppl contributed to the object (whether it's other prims, scripts, textures or whatever).
If I buy a script from someone and make an object containing this script, I'm still the creator of the «object», right? I do see that this raises some issues as I could simply link an object I made to another object I bought and it would show me as the creator then... but with the current behaviour, the llGetInventoryCreator()-command is actually pretty useless and promises functions that will fail most of the time...

Ah well... :)
