Unfortunately, that statement still holds true. We still aren't able to use llTakeCamera and llReleaseCamera. Try taking a look at llSetCameraAtOffset and llSetCameraEyeOffset, as possible alternatives.

i am trying to make a remote control car that the camera will follow so that it can go longer distances away from the avatar and this command would make that possible.

"If implemented, they will presumably allow scripts to lock the camera to specific coordinates."

that explain petgirl?

This command has been on the books since before SL 1.0, we don't know what it should do exactly; presumably LL doesn't know either and that is why it hasn't been added.

that would be handy.
But for now just make the avatar invisiable on the little RC car.

Yup, I was about to suggest this but Burke beat me to it.

I played around with using a single frame AV animation to make the AV curl up into a ball, and then make the AV "sit" right above the vehicle and put an invisoprim above the vehicle to hide the AV. This never worked that well for my purposes, and I ended up approaching it differently (See my signature for a link to my store in Swain to see "Virtual Racer", the prototype of my racecar game).

If you want your AV to be able to stand there holding a remote or whatever, then you won't be able to "trick" the camera into following the vehicle any way that I know of - The camera will Allllways follow your AV's position, so the "invisible avatar" works because, like most vehicles, you are actually there riding it and attached to the vehicle, even though your are invisible.

Vote for increased camera control on the votes page! C'mon, you know you want to! I've got 8 votes towards that and only 2 towards a 2nd skin layer now. :)
